【目標】
1)To improve students' vocabulary skills by covering a)pre-reading word-study exercises and then b)reading and listening to 900-1000-word essays;
2)to improve students' pronunciation by doing oral readings of assigned paragraphs， and 3)to increase the students' reading-comprehension skills before starting various speaking activities.
【講義概要】
The essays will focus on "topics of current interest and important" areas such as: "psychology and neuroscience， space exploration， indigenous language， violence in sports， hunger and food waste， reading and literature， austerity and unemployment， women's rights" and others. This textbook provides preparatory materials to practice the skills which are required for the TOEFL， SAT， and GRE by providing Mini-test Sections to check students' progress and to improve one's reading retention. We will cover the exercises and oral readings of the paragraphs (with the instructor providing corrections afterwards).Small-group and entire-class speaking activities will follow after every two lessons have been completed.
