【目標】
To read a contemporary translation of parts of the Bible， discuss the meaning of the passages in English， make comparisons with other religious traditions， and draw moral-ethical conclusions as appropriate. Students will gain basic knowledge about this seminal text in the Western tradition， and gain practice in reading， listening to， and speaking English. We will not do translation， since the text is modern， and easily understandable as English.
Emphasis will be on discussing the meaning(s) of the text. This is not a course of indoctrination in a particular religious tradition ― it is intended as general cultural background for everyone.
【講義概要】
We will read accounts of the Creation and Eden myths， and of the (possibly historical) Exodus; also certain Psalms (which are poems or hymns); also some of the Prophets of the Old Testament. Then we will read parts of the Gospels (the life of Jesus) and key passages from the Epistles (Letters) of St. Paul and other apostles. We will look at the mysterious， mystical， and apocalyptical Book of Revelation at the end of the course.
