【講座内容】
この講座では、英語の「聞く(理解)力」と「話す力」を養います。If you want to speak and understand English better， this course can help. This semester， we’ll do three stories from “News Tapes 3，” a book that features realistic broadcast news stories， and one story of similar quality. Each student will receive a CD containing the four stories. In class， you’ll receive an A3-sized copy of the two transcription pages of an assigned story. Most of the words in the story are missing. At home， transcribe it (listen to the story and fill in the blanks with the words you hear)， then bring the paper to class the following week. Through this individual listening and transcription work at home and group discussion and pair work in class while taking infection control measures， you’ll have plenty of practice listening and speaking. It’s a great way to build vocabulary， improve listening comprehension， and reinforce good grammar and intonation.

第2回 2023/10/ 5(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week， listen to transcriptions of Lesson 13， hand out remaining pages， begin going over vocabulary in the story， Parts A and B
第3回 2023/10/12(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week.， finish going over “Gaining Voter Support” vocabulary， do Part C， Comprehension in pairs
第4回 2023/10/19(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week.， finish going over Lesson 13 Discussion questions 1-3， hand out transcription pages for Lesson 20， “A Divorce Case”
第5回 2023/10/26(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week， go over transcriptions of Lesson 20， hand out remaining pages， begin going over vocabulary in Parts A and B
第6回 2023/11/ 9(木) Discuss major news stories of the past two weeks， go over “A Divorce Case” story， then do Part C， Comprehension in pairs
第7回 2023/11/16(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week， finish going over Comprehension questions and answers， do No. 1-3 in Part G， Discussion. Hand out transcription pages for Lesson 6， “Riot Control”
第8回 2023/11/30(木) Discuss major news stories of the past two weeks， listen to transcriptions of Lesson 6， hand out remaining pages， begin going over vocabulary in the story
第9回 2023/12/ 7(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week.， finish going over “Riot Control” vocabulary， begin Part C， Comprehension in pairs
第10回 2023/12/14(木) Go over lingering questions about Comprehension questions and/or answers， do Part G， Discussion questions 1-3. Hand out exercise to review key vocabulary from the News Tapes 3 stories.
第11回 2023/12/21(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week， go over handout reviewing key News Tapes 3 vocabulary. Hand out transcription pages for final story， “Hot Foot”
第12回 2024/ 1/11(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week， go over transcriptions of “Hot Foot，” hand out remaining pages. Go over vocabulary in story.
第13回 2024/ 1/18(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week. Do Comprehension questions in pairs.
第14回 2024/ 1/25(木) Discuss major news stories of the past week. Do the three discussion questions about “Hot Foot.”

プロフィール	I was born in Chicago (Illinois， U.S.A.) and grew up in one its south suburbs. I spent three years in the U.S. Marine Corps， then entered and graduated from Southern Illinois University with bachelor’s degrees in Broadcasting and Journalism and a minor in Japanese. I have taught English in Japan for more than 26 years. I live in Matsudo and like to play tennis on Sundays and go bowling at least once a week.
